The Oct 15, 2026 FCC rules, in plain language
What FCC 26-19 changes and what it doesn't for your business.
- On Oct 15, 2026, FCC changes (order FCC 26-19) take effect that streamline the notices carriers give before retiring copper networks or discontinuing services.
- Per the Federal Register publication, copper retirement still needs 90 days' direct notice (15 days if the copper serves no customers), and notice can be posted on the carrier's website.
- It does not mean your line is cut in October. Each retirement has its own notice and date.
- Separately, AT&T asked the FCC to end landline voice in parts of California on or after June 1, 2027. The CPUC is challenging that plan.
- The practical step: know today which of your lines are copper, so you can decide calmly.
