Elevator, alarm and gate: the devices to check first

The devices that often depend on a copper line, and why to check them first.

By Your Connectivity Advisor · October 14, 2026

  • Elevator phone: the cab's emergency line is usually a code requirement.
  • Fire alarm panel: the communicator to the monitoring center may carry inspection requirements.
  • Gates & entry phones: many call boxes dial out over a landline.
  • Fax & card terminal: medical, legal and retail offices sometimes keep these as backups.
  • Your main business number: if it's on copper, plan the port so you keep it.
  • Common replacements include cellular line-replacement devices, internet calling, fiber, or cellular failover. The right one depends on the device and the building.
