A heads-up in time · Free check

Your business, connected.

Is your elevator, alarm or gate still on a copper line? We'll check it for free.

We want you to hear about this early, not on cutover day. AT&T plans to stop copper landline service in parts of California on or after June 1, 2027, per its FCC filing (source: CPUC). Send a photo of your phone bill and we'll calmly walk you through which lines may be affected and what your options are. Whether you act is up to you.

Who it's for

Property managers and HOAs

Elevator phones, fire alarm panels, gates and entry phones. Many still run on a copper line and must pass inspection.

Small businesses

Alarms, fax, and card-machine backup lines. Worth knowing before a notice arrives.

What's happening

October 15, 2026

New FCC copper-retirement rules take effect (FCC 26-19).

Still contested

The CPUC is appealing the plan. See the CPUC page.

How it works

1. Upload your bill

A clear photo or PDF of your latest phone bill. Feel free to cover account numbers.

2. We review it

We flag which lines look like copper and what they're used for.

3. You get options

We compare alternatives across dozens of carriers. Your call, no obligation.

What you get

The secret, free: how to spot copper lines on your bill

No tech background needed. With your bill in hand, check these (they're clues, not a hard rule):

  1. Count the phone numbers listed on the bill. Each one is usually a line.
  2. Look for words like Business Line, Local Service, Basic Line, Flat Rate or Measured Service. They usually point to a traditional landline.
  3. A per-line charge such as Federal Subscriber Line Charge or FCC Line Charge is another landline clue.
  4. Compare the list with what's in the building: elevator, fire alarm panel, gate, entry phone, fax and card terminal. A number nobody calls out from is often one of those devices.
  5. Not sure? Send us the photo and we'll go through it together, free.

Clear information, neighbor to neighbor

We'd rather explain how it works before offering anything, so you can decide calmly and with the facts. According to the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic-owned businesses in the county employ 50,000+ people and generate $4+ billion in annual sales. These businesses support families and communities, and they deserve to hear about this early. (Big Hill Advisors is not affiliated with the Chamber.)

FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. The check costs nothing and doesn't commit you to switching.

Will my line be cut in October?

Not necessarily. The FCC rules start October 15, but each copper retirement carries its own notice. Each retirement has its own date.

What about elevator phones or fire alarms?

Those are the ones most worth checking early, since they must keep working and pass inspection.

What do you do with my bill?

We use it to identify your lines. We share it only with the providers needed to prepare your quotes, and only with your consent. We never sell it.

Who will reply?

Your Connectivity Advisor at Big Hill Advisors, by email, in English or Spanish.

Can I share this with another manager or my family?

Of course. If you know someone who runs a building or business, send them this page. The check is free for everyone.

Know another manager or business owner?

If someone you know runs a building, an HOA or a business, share this page with them. The check is free for everyone.
